A Medicare rebate of $137.05 may be available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year if you are referred from a GP (or Psychiatrist) with a current mental health treatment plan.

Telehealth (Online Therapy):

Telehealth refers to therapy sessions performed via the internet (e.g., video calls on mobiles, tablets, computers). These sessions can be used as an alternative to or to supplement face-to-face sessions. Some people find online therapy beneficial because they live in an area where access to a clinical psychologist is restricted (e.g., regional and remote areas). Some people prefer online therapy because of the comfort and convenience of not leaving home. Telehealth is offered to clients Australia wide (i.e., you do not have to be located in Geelong where Lynsey Byrom Clinical Psychology is based.)

An online therapy session is 50 mins long and is conducted by video call. In response to COVID-19 there is now provision for clients to access Medicare rebates for Telehealth sessions (if certain criteria are met). That is, a Medicare rebate of $137.05 may be available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year if you are referred from a GP (or Psychiatrist) with a current mental health treatment plan.
